Drumroll please…. After 16 years of mostly the same midsize pickup model, Nissan has revealed a more modern, third-generation Frontier for the 2022 model year! While the new model draws inspiration from the original Nissan hardbody compact truck, no longer does this mid-size pickup look like a blast from the past.

Here we offer a sneak peak of the 2022 Nissan Frontier and what you can expect from this exciting new reveal!

Performance

The 2022 Nissan Frontier features the same naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V-6 engine that debuted on the 2020 model. The engine generates 310-HP and 281 pound-feet of torque, tamed with a nine-speed automatic transmission and rear or four-wheel drive. While the nostalgic frame that dates back to the early 2000s, the suspension has been revised and the rest of the truck is considerably improved.

Towing & Payload

The newest Frontier model has a towing capacity of 6,720 pounds with a maximum payload of 1,610 pounds (an increase of 160 pounds from the previous model) putting it in the same category as worthy competitors such as the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Jeep Gladiator.

Fuel Economy

The official fuel-economy estimates are yet to be announced, but since the 2022 Frontier has the same V-6 powertrain from the previous generation, expect to see around 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway.

Interior Comfort & Cargo

Here’s where things get interesting. The new Frontier’s interior redesign is a major improvement over the outdated and plastic-laden cabin of its predecessors. Not only are the trim pieces more refined and surfaces smoother, the interior has an overall more contemporary feel with tons of comfort features to boot. Interior features include:

• Large color display at instrument cluster to offset the analog gauges
• Available heating for the steering wheel and front seats
• Zero Gravity front seats
• Ample interior cubby storage space (includes a bin on top of the dashboard and storage space under the back seat)
• 5’ and 6’ wheelbase lengths available

Infotainment

Just like the rest of Nissan’s lineup, the 2022 Frontier offers plenty of infotainment and connectivity including:

• Standard 8” touchscreen display (9” display is available)
• Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System and Audio Streaming

• Several charging outlets, one of which is a USB-C port
• Wireless Smartphone charging

The 2022 Frontier offers an assortment of driver-assist technology as part of the Nissan Safety Shield 360. Safety features include:

Compared to other mid-size pickup trucks, the 2022 Frontier offers a competitive warranty package that includes a limited warranty coverage of three years of 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty coverage of five years or 60,000 miles.
