2025 Nissan Rogue E-Power vs 2025 Kia Sorento PHEV

The Rogue is, without a doubt, one of the more popular SUVs making their rounds on city streets. Now imagine everything that makes the Rogue great and add energy-saving benefits with an electrified platform. It’s easy for us to see why the new 2025 Rogue E-Power is the superior choice compared to the Sorento PHEV which tries to boast big promises while delivering too little. Performance

Since the 2025 Nissan Rogue E-Power has yet to hit dealerships, we purely have data to offer at this time. However, you won’t want to look over these specs. The Rogue E-Power is said to fuse a 2.4L engine with a dual electric motor platform to deliver roughly 248 horsepower. This would be a substantial upgrade from the 201-HP gas model, and we also have high hopes for the exceptional mileage to follow.

Next up, we have the 2025 Kia Sorento PHEV. This one comes equipped with a smaller 1.6L turbo engine and an ordinary electric motor setup. This powertrain isn’t nearly as exciting as what Nissan has come up with. The Sorento PHEV has 74 MPGe combined, but we expect the Rogue E-Power to surpass this number. Only time will tell, but we have an eye for this sort of thing.

Safety Features

We have much to say on the topic of safety when it comes to Nissan technology. If the 2025 Rogue E-Power is anything like the latest iteration of the Rogue, it will come standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360 supporting at least 6 standard features. Those safety features include Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Automatic Braking, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and High Beam Assist. That’s amazing enough already, but we’re more excited to introduce you to Nissan’s next-gen safety tech that we’re anticipating in the Rogue E-Power:

• ProPILOT Assist 2.1 - Nissan now offers autonomous driving along with ProPILOT Assist features and benefits.
• 3D Around View Monitor with Hood View - When using your Around View camera, you can now see underneath your hood.
• Intelligent Lane Intervention - The Rogue E-Power will warn you of lane departure while guiding the vehicle for you and applying brakes when necessary.

Nissan has made huge advances in their safety and driver-assist technology in the Rogue, but the same can’t be said for the Sorento PHEV. Many of the features you see in this particular plug-in hybrid aren't anything you haven’t already seen in previous Kia SUVs like smart cruise control, collision-avoidance systems, blind spot detection, and so on. If we had to pick a feature that we do like in the new Sorento PHEV, it would be the available full-display mirror. However, there’s no way we would part with all of Nissan’s advanced tech in the Rogue just for a fancy mirror.

Interior

Since the main difference in the electrified version of the Rogue will be the powertrain, we can still expect the spacious and functional layout of the current Rogue’s interior in the E-Power model. We’re looking forward to the handy motion-activated liftgate to make life’s chores feel less daunting as well as the useful Divide-N-Hide system that can pack more items into perfectly-placed cubbies that make the most use out of your space. With how big the Rogue is, we’re also expecting the remote-folding rear seats to make a comeback to up the convenience factor for bustling families.

You might see a long list of interior features for the Sorento PHEV at first glance, but reading the fine print will make it all feel a tad underwhelming. You have a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, heated second-row seats, memory seats, and power lumbar support. Heating elements are nice, but it’s not like you’re going to use it when the sun’s beating down hard on your car’s roof. Kia is still figuring out what makes the perfect family SUV while Nissan is ready to hand it to you on a silver platter.

Bottom Line

Settling for the Sorento just because you saw your friend get one isn’t reason enough to choose this ride over the many better options out there.
