* 2023 Nissan Versa vs 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage *
The problem with most low-cost cars is that they’re as affordable as they are from sacrificing quality. For those who simply want a way to get around, the quality of a car may not seem so important until you start dealing with a poor experience day after day. Don’t let yourself be trapped in this vicious cycle, go with an affordable yet capable car like the 2023 Nissan Versa. But what’s so bad about the Mirage? You’ll soon find out.
* Performance *
With a starting price of around $15,980, the 2023 Nissan Versa has a rather surprising powertrain for the low cost. It comes with a 1.6L I4 engine capable of 122 horsepower which is more than what is expected for an affordable sedan, and it has a very nice fuel rating of 32 in-city and 40 highway miles per gallon which can save you even more with fewer trips to the gas station. You can also choose between a 5-speed manual transmission and an Xtronix CVT system. For those who know how to drive a stick, manual transmissions typically cost less in repairs compared to their more complex automatic counterparts. As an added bonus, the new Versa is also built with a rigid chassis and has responsive steering to give you a taste of high performance on a budget.
Starting at around $16,245, the new Mitsubishi Mirage advertises a decent fuel rating of 36 in-city and 43 highway miles per gallon. That may be a tad more than what the Versa can offer, but sadly, this is the Mirage’s only major selling point. After some light digging, you’ll find out what they don’t want you to know. Under the hood is a very small 1.2L engine that is only capable of a mere 78 horsepower. This engine size isn’t all that common which means replacing it can cost you a pretty penny, and with such low horsepower, you could easily find yourself in a tight spot that’s difficult to get out of without some help.
* Safety Features *
The new Versa is a fantastic deal in so many ways, with the list of safety features already being enough to give you more than your money’s worth. As with all new Nissan vehicles, the Safety Shield 360 package comes standard with Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Automatic Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and High Beam Assist. All of that comes with your Versa at no additional cost, and you also have the support of 10 airbags. If you wanted to, you could even include extra features like Intelligent Cruise Control, Intelligent Driver Alertness, and more.
Meanwhile, the new Mirage seems to be cutting corners in all aspects including safety. There are only 7 airbags, with one of them being under the driver’s side dashboard. Forward Collision Mitigation comes standard, but you’ll have to pay for other features like Lane Departure Warning and Automatic High Beams. Compared to the Versa, the Mirage will have you questioning why it has a higher starting price.
* Interior *
While the 2023 Versa already has everything you need at a low price range, Acura gives you the ability to customize your ride however you want with a great selection of available features. heated Zero Gravity front seats paired with Automatic Temperature Control keep you comfortable any time of the year. The Advanced Drive-Assist Display gives you an easy way to view and manage important information like your fuel economy, connected audio, and driver-assist alerts. Considering that the highest SR trim is still under the $20k price range in terms of starting price, you can still get the best experience at an affordable cost.
The new Mirage also has an automatic climate control system, but there’s not much else to note. It has a 7-inch infotainment display but the one in the Versa is 8 inches. The Mirage supports 17.1 cubic feet of cargo in the trunk which is only slightly larger than the Versa’s 15 cubic feet, but the Versa also supports various smart storage areas to keep your things out of the way.
* Bottom Line *
The 2023 Nissan Versa and the 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage are both very affordable vehicles, but if you want a powerful and reliable car with ample safety and interior features, the Versa easily gives you your money’s worth. It also comes at a lower starting price than the Mirage so it’s a win no matter how you look at it!
