This will barely be the second model year for Nissan’s ARIYA, and it’s already become a top choice for many fans. It comes in so many variants so there’s flexibility in choices, and it gets the Nissan special treatment in terms of safety features including some that are still brand-new concepts for vehicles in general. The interior design can easily be considered luxury with all of the fancy features and various amenities. In comparison, the Solterra simply does the bare minimum.

* Performance *

Flexibility in your choice means having the ability to prioritize what you want in an EV. Would you rather have the best range with quick charge times, or do you want to maximize your power output? The ARIYA offers five distinct trims, some of them coming in a couple of different versions, so you can choose the model that best fits your needs. You can get up to 304 miles on a single charge, or you can choose the 290 kW AWD dual motor setup supporting 389 horsepower getting you from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. The driving quality in the ARIYA is enhanced further with the addition of a liquid-cooling system, e-Step regenerative one-pedal braking, and 3 drive modes including Sort, Eco, and Snow. You can even tow up to 1,500 pounds!

The maximum number of miles you can go on a single charge in the Solterra is a low 228. Considering the main selling point of EVs is the ability to drive without having to make stops at a gas station, you might be disappointed to find yourself pulling over at one anyway if you’re taking a long trip or you forget to plug it in for one night. The Solterra is also less powerful with a max of 215 horsepower even on a dual-motor system. On the bright side, it has four drive modes including Eco, Normal, Power, and X-Mode.

* Safety Features *

As you’d expect, the Nissan Safety Shield package comes standard in all ARIYA trims, but that’s not all. The available ProPILOT Assist 2.0 brings you some amazing features that most people would consider high-end and futuristic such as hands-off driving capability, guided freeway driving, off-ramp recognition, and more. ProPILOT Park can automatically park your ARIYA for you, and there are plenty of intelligent features available that are designed to help you be more aware of your surroundings:

● Intelligent Around View Monitor

● Intelligent Rear View Mirror

● Intelligent Forward Collision Warning

● Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention

● Intelligent Lane Intervention

While there are too many safety and driver assist features in the ARIYA to count on your fingers, the Solterra only comes with the bare minimum to cover your essentials. It comes standard with a Pre-Collision System with Braking, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. There’s an available Panoramic View Monitor, Blind-Spot Monitor, Auto High Beams, and a Safe Exit Assist feature. But you won’t find any advanced intelligent systems or hands-free driving functionality.

* Interior *

There’s so much going on inside the ARIYA that we don’t even know where to begin. For comfortability, you have available Zero Gravity seating that’s temperature controlled and backed by memory settings. Dual 12.3-inch monitors make it easy to view all of your media and important information which can be accessed by voice recognition or Alexa support. The floor lantern, door lights, power-sliding center console, and slide-out tray in the dashboard are nice touches that give the ARIYA a luxurious feel about it. The haptic-touch dash “buttons” for your basic controls are incredibly satisfying to use, but people may be even more impressed with the Intelligent Route Planner feature that finds the shortest route to your destination while showing you every charge station along the way.

You can opt-in for the available 12.3-inch infotainment screen in the Solterra, but it won’t be a dual-screen layout like in the ARIYA especially since the instrument cluster is only 7 inches. You have some of the basics like wifi support and heated seating, and you can even enjoy voice recognition for ease of use, but that’s about all there is to mention when it comes to interior features and amenities.

* Bottom Line *

On top of excelling in every category, the Nissan ARIYA presents a worry-free drive by offering various warranties, complimentary maintenance, and roadside assistance. With the ARIYA, there’s no doubt that you’re getting your money’s worth while experiencing a top-notch ride. Meanwhile, the Solterra is just your most basic EV without promising anything worthwhile.
