2022 Nissan Leaf vs. 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E

2022 Nissan Leaf vs. 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E

If you are in the market for an electric vehicle, you have likely heard of the Nissan Leaf. As one of the oldest battery-electric vehicles on the market, the Leaf is also the most affordable EVs on the market. But what about its rival the Ford Mustang Mach-E? Which electric vehicle performs better and has the best features? Our team at Maus Nissan New Port Richey weighs in!

Performance

The 2022 Leaf is a perky addition to the electric vehicle market, and with its e-Pedal feature, you can toggle back and forth between regenerative braking modes. One braking mode allows the Leaf to coast when you lift off the throttle, and the other slows the car when you take your foot off the gas.

The Nissan Leaf is more efficient and will handle and accelerate better than the Mustang Mach-E because it weighs about 900-1100 pounds less. It is also 9.2 inches shorter than the Mustang Mach-E, making it easier to handle and maneuver into tight spaces.

The extended range all-wheel-drive Mustang Mach-E is quicker and easier to drive than most ordinary crossovers, but you shouldn't expect it to be as engaging as a traditional Mustang.

Battery Power and Mileage

The standard Nissan Leaf comes with a 40-kWh battery pack that offers 149 miles of range. The SV trim comes with the same battery pack, but the Leaf S Plus comes with a 62-kWh battery with 226 miles of range. The Leaf SV Plus and the SL Plus both offer 215 miles of range.

The 2022 Leaf also comes standard with a CHAdeMO fast-charging battery connector.

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E comes equipped with either a 70 kWh or 90 kWh lithium-ion battery, with a range of around 211 to 305 miles. Every Mach-E also comes with fast-charging capabilities.

Battery Recharging

The Leaf can be plugged into a regular 120-volt outlet or a 240-volt outlet, but the charging time will vary between the two. With the 240-volt connection, the Leaf battery will be fully charged within seven hours.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E comes with a Ford Mobile charger that can charge up to 30 miles of range per night with a 120-volt outlet, and up to 80% of the battery life with the 240-volt outlet. You can also order a Ford charge station that can be installed at your home to replenish 32 miles of charge each hour and completely recharge the battery overnight.

Interior, Comfort & Cargo

The cabin of the 2022 Nissan Leaf is well-assembled and feels higher end than earlier models. The SL model offers an optional light-gray leather interior with a matching dash pad. The gauge cluster features an analog speedometer with a 7.0-inch digital readout that can be configured to show a variety of displays and information.

The Leaf's seats are as comfortable as your favorite La-Z-Boy sofa, and it has spacious rear seating that has plenty of room for passengers. Plus, the cargo space is among the best in its class. You can fit seven carry-on suitcases behind the back seat, and if they are folded down, a whopping 19 can fit!

Inside, the Mustang Mach-E has little in common with its gas-powered Mustang cousin. It has a digital gauge cluster and a huge vertically mounted touchscreen. It comes equipped with 29 cubic feet of cargo space and up to 60 if the back seats are folded.

Technology

All 2022 Leaf Models come with a standard 8.0-inch HD infotainment display that can integrate with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes the latest Nissan Connect software interface which is intuitive and quick to respond to inputs. The base trim comes with a six-speaker audio system, but in the SL and SL Plus models, you'll get a seven-speaker Bose system.

The Leaf also includes a suite of driver assistance technologies including:

Front and rear automatic emergency braking

       Blind-spot monitoring and intervention

       Lane departure warning and mitigation

Other notable features on the SV trim are integrated navigation and adaptive cruise control. ProPilot Assist, a surround-view monitor, and driver attention monitoring are either optional or standard depending on the trim level.

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is equipped with Ford's SYNC infotainment system that customizes each driver's experience. The systems currently support three driver profiles and one guest driver. Other features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, mobile Wi-Fi, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Available features for an additional price on the Mach-E include:

Forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert

       Lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist

Bottom Line

Though the Ford Mustang Mach-E might have a longer driving range than the 2022 Nissan Leaf, it can't compete with the cargo space, battery charging capabilities, and maneuverability of Nissan's super affordable EV.  And did we mention the price? The Nissan Leaf is the least expensive EV on the market, so if you have been waiting to buy an EV, now is the time!
