2021 Nissan Armada vs. 2021 Toyota Sequoia

2021 Nissan Armada vs. 2021 Toyota Sequoia

If you're in the market for an 8-passenger SUV that is ready to take you on an adventure, you might be looking at the 2021 Nissan Armada and the 2021 Toyota Sequoia. But which one is better? Great question! Our team at Maus Nissan New Port Richey discusses the similarities and differences between the two, and why we hands down recommend the Nissan Armada!

Overview

The 2021 Nissan Armada is Nissan's largest SUV and is one of just a handful of full-size body-on-frame SUVs on the market today. It has been completely updated for 2021 and offers many upgradeable amenities.

The 2021 Toyota Sequoia is a brawny 3-row family SUV and offers a rugged truck-like body-on-frame design, just like the Armada.

Performance

The Armada comes equipped with a 5.8-liter V8 engine which offers 400 horsepower and 413 lb.-ft of torque, while the Sequoia has a 5.7-liter V8 engine with 381 horsepower and 401 lb.-ft of torque.

Both SUVs offer impressive off-roading and towing capabilities.

Interior

Both SUVs seat 8 people comfortably and both offer upgradeable options to add heated seats. The Armada SV offers a fold-flat third-row seat, a push-button ignition, four 12-volt outlets, automatic dual-zone climate control, a rearview camera, and heated side-view mirrors.

Upgrade to the SL and you get all the SV's amenities plies LED fog lights, a power memory driver's seat and steering wheel, a power sunroof, remote start, a power liftgate, a 13-speaker Bse audio system, trailer sway control, plus a 360-degree surround-view camera system.

The Platinum Armada includes all the above features plus a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers, rear step lights, illuminated cup holders, and a power reclining and folding third row.

Further, you can include second-row captain's chairs in place of the standard bench seat in the SL and Platinum models.

The Toyota Sequoia SR5 is equipped with a rear power window, a sunroof, a backup camera, tri-zone automatic climate control, a power driver seat, a sliding and reclining second-row seat, a reclining third-row seat, and rear side sunshades.

The TRD Sport adds standard second-row captain's chairs, leather upholstery, heated front seats, power-reclining and fold-flat third-row seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a premium JBL audio system.

The Limited version adds heated front seats and a power liftgate, power-folding mirrors, a power passenger seat, heated front seats, and more!

Technology

For 2021, the Armada gets a standard 12.3-inch infotainment system with Wi-Fi, Android Auto, and wireless Apple CarPlay. It also comes with a new 7.0-inch gauge cluster display and a brand-new integrated trailer brake controller.

The Sequoia was upgraded with a new infotainment system last year with the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with Amazon Alexa integration.

Bottom Line

Both the 2021 Nissan Armada and the 2021 Toyota Sequoia likely offer more towing capacity than the average driver needs, and both are constructed on a body-on-frame chassis for a truck-like feel. So, which is better? We recommend the Armada over the Sequoia as it feels more modern than the aging Sequoia. It also has a better-towing capacity, and more passenger space in the third row, not to mention all the upgradeable features!

Armada vs. Sequoia

Armada benefits: Higher tow rating; luxury interior, more modern looking
Sequoia benefits: Good resale; reliability; higher tow rating
